Jharkhand:

Production: 80,716 million tonnes

Jharkhand tops the list of coal reserve states in the country with estimated storage of 80,716 million tonnes of coal. Jharia mine in Dhanbad district is one of the main coal mines in the state. Magadha Khadans in Chatra district is expected to be Asia's largest coal mine by 2019-20.

Odisha:

Production: 75,073 million tonnes

With an estimated reserve of 75,073 million tonnes, Odisha is the second largest coal reserve (storage) state. The main coal mines are in Angul and Jharsuguda districts of the state.

Chhattisgarh:

Production: 52,533 million tonnes

Chhattisgarh comes third in terms of coal reservation with estimated reserves of 52,533 million tonnes. The Korba coalfields are the main coalfields of the state.

Madhya Pradesh:

Production: 75.590 million tonnes

Around 75.590 million tonnes of coal is extracted from coal mines of Madhya Pradesh in 2018. Madhya Pradesh is the fourth largest Indian coal producing state.

Andra Pradesh:

Production: 50.469 million tonnes

Andhra Pradesh ranks fifth in coal production. Last year, about 50.469 million tonnes of coal was extracted from the coal mines of this state of India.

An estimated 638.05 million tonnes of coal were produced in the year 2015-16. In terms of coal production, the state of Chhattisgarh tops the list with a production of 127.095 million tonnes. Jharkhand has come second with a production of 113.014 million tonnes, while Odisha has come third with a production of 112.917 million tonnes.
